Episode 8:

Memento Mori

<music>

Peace be with you.

Welcome to a new week!

Each year, each month, each week, each day, each moment is a chance to start fresh. Why wait?

“Memento mori” is a Latin phrase that translates to “remember you will die.”

Now before you call me morbid, I’d like to remind you that thinking about death is how some of the most famous people in history prioritized living a good life.

None of us know the day or time that we’ll leave this phase of existence. Some live life like they’re going to be here forever… putting off what can be done today until tomorrow, and then the next day, and then the day after that… until one day, they run out of tomorrows, having accomplished little and regretting things they never did.

If that’s your way of life so far, you are the reason for this week’s challenge, and we’ll make it easier than it sounds.

When you think about all the things you’d like to do before you die, does it feel overwhelming? Do you have a bucket list a mile long?

Does it seem like you’ll never be able to do it all?

Maybe your list includes travel… when you have time.

Maybe it’s going to eat at a Michelin five-star restaurant… when you have money.

Maybe it’s telling someone how you feel about them… when the setting is perfect.

Do you see where I’m going with this?

Make time for travel. Save money for that restaurant. Even if you only save $5 a week, you’ll have the money for it eventually! Tell that person how you feel the next time you talk to them.

Life is short!

Start that business now.

Write that book today.

Do it scared.

Do it now.

Because you’re not promised tomorrow.

I once talked with an elderly woman at church who’d had two lung transplants. TWO!

She told me that she was sure she was still alive because God was waiting for her to do something, although she wasn’t sure what that was. So, she wasn’t planning to do anything.

She was joking, and when she passed, my first thought was, “I wonder what she finally did, or if God just got tired of waiting.”

Death is inevitable. It’s not something to be feared or sought after. It just is, and it will happen when it happens.

So do the thing.

Start it now.

Make it great!

My challenge to you this week is to pick one thing on your bucket list and start working toward it. Just one! Just do it!

Go forth and live!
