Episode 128:

Psychic Protection of Your Home

When you’re worried about negative forces entering your home, what should you do? (Hint: the answer is not “buy nitric acid on Amazon.”)

Welcome to the PEEP Podcast! I’m your host Nicolle Morock, and I’m grateful you’re here! The two big ideas behind the PEEP Podcast are to show that the paranormal is more normal than most people think and to connect the science to the psi, including ESP, hauntings, and psychokinesis! In this episode, we’ll chat for a moment about easy, practical, and non-hazardous ways to protect your home from psychic or spiritual attack.

But first, a quick personal update and reminder: If you subscribe to my newsletter, you’ll have already seen this news, so you can skip ahead about a minute. If not, you can keep listening and feel free to go to nicollemorock.com or peeppodcast.com and subscribe!

On Saturday, September 19th, I will be selling my books and promoting this podcast at the Ferry Plantation Paracon. The event is at the Ferry Plantation in Virginia Beach, Virginia, from noon to 4pm. I’ll be in the company of other paranormal investigators, authors, and mediums. They are going to have speakers there, and there is an overnight investigation, but that investigation is sold out.

If you’re in the area, please come see me. I’ll put a link to the event page in the show notes.

Just a little over two weeks after the Ferry Paracon, my Haunted Carolina presentations begin. My first will be on Monday, October 5th at the Fuquay-Varina Community Library, and then I’ll have nine more chances for you to catch me across Wake County, plus I’ll be at the Mebane Public Library on Halloween Day at 11am.

I will be setting up event pages on Facebook for each of the library presentations separately, and I’ll list them on my blog this week. Just go to nicollemorock.com/blog to see all 10 Wake County locations, dates, and times. I’ll put a link in the show notes for that, too.

Also, going in the show notes is the link to a news story from the Charlotte Observer in Charlotte, North Carolina. This article inspired today’s episode topic. Here’s the gist:

A family in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, felt they needed to take drastic measures to protect themselves from haints. For those not from NC or familiar to the term, a haint is a negative or malevolent spirit or entity. We have some interesting ways to deter them around here, including painting the ceilings of our porches sky blue. Doing that is also supposed to confuse mosquitoes, by the way.

That folk remedy must not have worked because the article says the family bought a book about protecting your home from haints, and as a result of some advice in the book, they next bought a container of 68% concentrated nitric acid, opened it, and set it on the front porch.

Then the hazmat team had to be called in.

Did it work against haints? The article does not say. Should you try this for yourself? Nope! Not at all.

According to the article, “A hazmat team in full safety garb neutralized the acid, which is ‘highly corrosive’ and can take the form of a ‘gas, vapor, mist, fume, or aerosol.’” “Nitric acid fumes may cause immediate irritation of the respiratory tract, pain, and other symptoms, followed by a period of recovery that may last several weeks,” according to the National Library of Medicine.

I really wish the article explained what was going on inside the home that caused the family to take such drastic and hazardous measures. And while it’s rare for me to say, I wish they had taken what they read in whatever book they bought, with a grain of salt and some critical thinking.

You know me. I love books.

But if a book tells you to set your hair on fire to get rid of lice, would you do it?

I can hear your answer through space and time: of course not!

So why buy a hazardous chemical and set it on your porch? There are much safer ways to combat negative entities. Here are just a few that come from folk magic, folklore, the Bible, native American traditions, and Christian prayers.

First, prayer works, if you have faith. Whatever that means to you. As a Catholic, I pray to God for protection, and I ask Mother Mary, St. Michael the Archangel, and my guardian angel for their intercession. Ask for your home to be protected from negative energy and any entities that would cause harm.

On rare occasions, you need a little more ammo added to your prayers.

I have cleared my own home of something ancient and angry with sage, prayer, and holy water. And before you tell me I’m appropriating Native American practices, I will tell you that I was taught how to smudge a home by a Native American. I’ll also remind you that even Jews and Christians have a history of burning incense and other smelly things to rid a space of negative entities, including demons. (Go back and listen to my episode numbers 85 and 123 for the rest of those stories.)

As I burn the sage and use a turkey feather to waft it into every corner of my home, I say over and over “Only light and love are allowed in my home. All negative things must leave.” Then, when I’m done with that, I use holy water to make the sign of the cross over each door and window to seal my home.

But, what if what’s bothering you is a human spirit? I’ve dealt with that, too. Typically, a stern talking to will work. Set boundaries or demand they leave.

I had a human spirit follow me home from Waynesville, North Carolina. My psychic friend, Jessica, who was on episode 96, told me a man had attached himself to me, and I immediately knew when and where I’d picked him up. I asked nicely for him to leave in the “you don’t have to go home but you can’t stay here,” sort of way.

But a few days later, he physically manifested by moving a bottle of hair product in my bathroom. I saw it as it happened. So, the kid gloves came off, and I started yelling at him to leave. I didn’t care how rude I sounded; I cursed him out and told him to get lost.

And he did.

Other ways to protect your home include

  • Pouring salt around the perimeter. This comes from folklore from all around the world, and you’ll usually see it associated with wiccan or witchcraft, too.
  • Placing quartz crystals at each of the four corners of your home to create a protective perimeter around it.
  • Hanging hyssop branches in your home, a plant native to the Middle East and mentioned in the Bible
  • Using  citrus, including putting lemons around your house to absorb negative energy. (I’m pretty sure this comes from Italy and/or Greece.)
  • Asking a priest or pastor or rabbi to come bless it.

Here’s the real key: no matter what version of protection you use, you must play an active role in keeping your home free of negative energy. Speak only love to those inside. Don’t let anger or frustration get the best of you. Be respectful and communicate clearly and openly. Protect your space by your own actions and attitude.

It does little good to smudge your home if you’re the one bringing the negative energy inside.
